In 2001, the Chicago Department of the Environment, Field Museum, and a range of partners providing nature-based programming in the Calumet region initiated the Calumet Stewardship Initiative (CSI). CSI member organizations are building an experiential learning continuum to provide environmental education opportunities from pre-school through college, and developing additional programs designed to sustain those educational efforts by equipping local groups to involve students in grassroots activity beyond the classroom.
